Chromecast not working since macOS Sequoia?
Since macOS 15, many Macs no longer find the Chromecast in Chrome, or cast a black screen. It isn’t your TV: macOS now asks for two permissions.
The two settings to turn on
- Local Network: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network → turn on Google Chrome. Without it, Chrome can’t see the Chromecast.
- Screen & System Audio Recording: same place → turn on Google Chrome. Without it, the TV shows a black screen.
- Quit Chrome completely (Cmd+Q), then reopen it.
That’s often enough to cast a tab.
And the whole screen, with sound?
Chrome’s desktop casting has limits on a Mac: a few seconds of delay, and sound that may stay on the Mac. CastMyMac is an app made for this:
- your whole screen on the TV, about 0.2 s delay, up to 60 fps;
- sound on the TV, controlled by your Mac’s volume keys;
- or the TV as a real second display, up to 4 screens on one TV;
- Chromecast, Google TV and Android TV with Chromecast built-in; macOS 14 to 26.
